Manufacturing process

natural-fertilizer-actisol

Acti-Sol developed an ecological method to convert the manure of layer hens into an effective fertilizer that’s safe and easy to use.

MANUFACTURING STAGES

Production of eggs for human consumption

fermes-b13f5-575ddAll the manure used in our fertilizers comes from family and partner farms whose egg production is intended for food consumption. Complete tests meeting the standards of the Fédération des producteurs d’œufs de consommation du Québec are performed on the flocks.

Manure handling

1poule-0a423The layer hen droppings are carried to the drying area on a conveyor belt on the same day they are produced. The droppings are gathered by automated systems. With no human handling of the manure and no contact with the outdoors, there is no risk of direct contamination.

Manure drying

2fumier-87d2fThe manure is dried directly at the farm using an environmentally sound procedure that recovers the heat produced by the hens (www.seconov.ca). Because the droppings are dried immediately, the risk of disease or bacterial infection is eliminated from the onset.

Raw material storage and transportation

3engrais-4fd49The dried manure is stored in a building meeting the manure storage standards set by the Environment Ministry.

4camion-19272The trucks carrying the dried manure from the farm to the processing plant meet biosafety standards.

Raw material reception and inspection

5matiere-61361The dry manure is stored as soon as it arrives at the plant. Every lot is strictly inspected and identified to ensure traceability.

Processing of dried manure into fertilizer

6preparation-03a9bPreparation of fertilizer blends with natural ingredients (hen manure, potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus, etc.). Acti-Sol makes sure all specifications set by the certification organizations are met.

Manufacturing of granules

7cubage-f5515Granulation at 82°C and up (granulation is the process by which the fertilizer is made into granules). The high temperature ensures the biosecurity of the product.

Packaging, control and delivery

8produits-721a4-0fb68During the bagging process, the fertilizer is divided into batches that are numbered to ensure traceability.

Delivery of products to the retailers

9camion-10b46-ee812The product batch numbers are shown on every order. They are also printed on all packaging to ensure complete traceability right up to the consumers.

Complete tests

test_labo-51c53-56055Samples are taken at several stages of the fertilizer manufacturing process and tests are carried out by the MAPAQ (Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) and Laboratoires SM. This laboratory is certified by the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency), the Standards Council of Canada, and Health Canada (Good Manufacturing Practices), and abides by the ISO 9001 standard. Tests done: salmonella, E. coli, bird flu, etc.

What is biosecurity?

Biosecurity is a system of strict standards that are specific to each industry, established to prevent hazards related to the development of biotechnologies. In Canada, the Biosafety Office of the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) has a biosafety protocol used as a prevention tool to ensure safety and proper hygiene on farms of all types.
